Mark Robins is reported to have identified Jake Bidwell as the man to cover injured left-back Ian Maatsen.

Loan star Maatsen, aged 19, has been ruled out for a month and has returned to Chelsea for treatment on a hamstring problem.

Bidwell, aged 28, is out of contract at Swansea at the end of the season and could be allowed to move for free in January.

He has also been linked with Birmingham City and Preston North End but Robins is said by the BBC to have put a long-term deal on the table.

Bidwell came through the ranks at Everton and made his breakthrough at Brentford before moving across London to join QPR.

He made more than 100 appearances for both clubs and joined Swansea as Steve Cooper’s first signing in 2019.

But he has gone from being a key figure under Russell Martin to not featuring in the last four games as an exit loomed.

WalesOnline reported this week: “With negotiations over an extension for Bidwell appearing to hit a stumbling block in recent weeks, the club have been open to allowing the defender to move on in the winter window rather than risk losing him for nothing following the conclusion of the 2021/22 season.”
