Mark Robins has painted a far brighter picture in terms of available personnel ahead of Coventry City’s first foray into the FA Cup this season.

The Sky Blues entertain Championship basement club Derby County in the third round of the competition at the Coventry Building Society Arena on Saturday (12.30 pm) – only their second game in the space of 28 days due to festive postponements as a result of Covid-19 cases in the opposition camps.

Coventry have also suffered with positive cases, with goalkeeper Simon Moore, star midfielder Gus Hamer and wing-back Fankaty Dabo all missing against Millwall last time out.

Elsewhere, striker Martyn Waghorn has not featured in over three months due to a shoulder injury, followed by a calf strain.

Here’s a round-up of all City’s injury news from manager Mark Robins on Friday, January 7.

Gustavo Hamer:

The Brazilian-born midfielder suffered a nasty foot injury when he was on the wrong end of an opponent’s studs against Birmingham City.

That forced the 24-year-old to miss the trips to Bournemouth and Huddersfield, and cut short his attempted come-back against West Brom.

Covid then sidelined him against Millwall but he’s fully recovered and back in training, and available for selection against the Rams.

Simon Moore:

The same goes for City’s No.1 goalkeeper who was replaced by understudy Ben Wilson in the 1-0 league defeat by the Lions last time out.

But Moore is back in training and available for selection against Wayne Rooney’s men.

Fankaty Dabo:

The wing-back is slightly ahead of the other two, having training for two days after time out with Covid prior to the Millwall match.

That wasn’t enough for him to feature, however, but he is expected to be back up to speed for the weekend.

Robins said when asked about Hamer, Moore and Dabo: “They are all clear.

“Fingers crossed, just praying and hoping.

“We do everything we can but this is just ridiculous (the Covid situation), so who knows.

“I am hoping everyone is going to be all right and that we can pick from a squad that’s bigger in number than we had last week, that’s for sure.”

Martyn Waghorn:

Waghorn hasn’t started a game since the 5-0 defeat at Luton Town, over three months ago.

His initial problem was a shoulder injury but, having fully recovered from that, his attempted return to training was cut short by a secondary issue with his calf.

Asked for an update on the experienced striker, Robins said: “He’s doing alright and been back in training for a few days.”

But asked if he’s fit enough to feature this weekend, he added: “Who knows, you’ll have to wait until you get the teamsheet.

“He’s back in training but don’t forget the last game he played was Luton.”
