The Met Office has issued a seven-hour weather warning for fog as temperatures dip below zero.

Forecasters have warned of severe travel disruption on Thursday due to overnight fog with freezing weather across parts of West Midlands.

Temperatures are expected to plummet with bitterly cold weather in the next few days.

The Met Office has warned people to prepare for the possibility of travel disruption this morning.

Drivers may be faced with travel delays on the roads along with delayed or cancelled bus, train and possible flight disruptions.

Forecasters predict areas of ‘dense freezing fog’ with widespread frost, with temperatures reaching as low as -4C.

The Met Office said: “Areas of fog have formed in low lying areas over southern England and northwards into parts of the West Midlands.

“These are likely to be dense in places with the visibility falling to less than 100 m. Fog will gradually lift and clear through the morning though a few small patches may persist into the afternoon.”

The Met Office weather forecast for our area in the days ahead

Today:

A cold and frosty start with some dense fog patches in places. The fog will lift slowly during the morning leaving sunny skies, however some places may stay chilly and misty even into the afternoon. Maximum temperature 8 °C.

Tonight:

Areas of fog will redevelop on Thursday evening. These will become more widespread during the early hours, with some dense freezing fog in places by morning. A widespread frost too. Minimum temperature -4 °C.

Friday:

A cold and foggy start to the day. The fog will be reluctant to clear in some spots, but where it does lift there’ll be some decent spells of sunshine. Maximum temperature 5 °C.

Outlook for Saturday to Monday:

Cloudy on Saturday with the odd spot of drizzle. Any patchy rain on Sunday morning clears to a brighter but breezy afternoon. Dry, bright and breezy on Monday.
