Pressure continues to pile on the Prime Minister after claims that Downing Street staff held ‘wine-time Fridays’ throughout the Covid-19 pandemic.
And it’s been suggested that Boris Johnson regularly witnessed the gatherings.
The Mirror has reported that Mr Johnson encouraged aides to ‘let off steam’ at a time when indoor socialising was banned under lockdown rules.
It comes after claims that staff took a suitcase to stock up on alcohol ahead of a party on the eve of Prince Philip’s funeral.
But now it’s reported that this event wasn’t a one-off.
Sources have said that it was a regular event which was so popular with staff that they invested in a £142 drinks fridge to keep their bottles of wine, Prosecco and beer cool.
And they took turns on Fridays to visit the local Tesco Metro in Westminster with a wheely suitcase to fill up the fridge, it’s been claimed.
The claims are putting more pressure on the Prime Minister who has already faced calls to resign this week over earlier revelations.
