The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for ice in Coventry and Warwickshire today (January 5) as temperatures drop to -1C.

The Met Office expects “difficult driving conditions at times on higher routes is likely. Some injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces. Probably some icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths. Some roads and railways likely to be affected with longer journey times by road, bus and train services.”

Clare Nasir, from the Met Office, has told drivers to be careful of ice on roads due to freezing conditions, reports the Mirror.

Ms Nasir said: “We will see the temperatures fall very quickly so expect a widespread frost, temperatures plummeting, values in -3C, -4 C in England and Wales and in the snow fields of Scotland down to maybe -10C.

“We can expect a fairly hard frost into Thursday morning before milder air moves in from the Atlantic with a band of cloud and rain and as the rain encounters the colder air it will turn to snow. It will be colder behind as well so snow showers likely through Friday.”
