A 20-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the unexplained death of a woman in Coventry.

Emergency services were called to a property on London Road yesterday evening (October 15) to reports of a medical emergency.

Ambulance teams were the first on scene after receiving a call at 7.20pm.

Upon arrival, they found a 56-year-old woman who was sadly confirmed dead at the scene despite the best efforts of paramedics.

The death is currently being treated as “unexplained circumstances” and a post mortem examination will be carried out to determine the cause of death.

Crews from West Midlands Ambulance Service requested officers from West Midlands Police attend the address at around 8.30pm.

A 20-year-old man was arrested in connection with the death, but it is still unclear how the woman died.

He remains in custody this morning (October 16).

A West Midlands Police spokesman said: “We received a call just before 8.30pm last night from ambulance colleagues reporting a woman who had died in unexplained circumstances at an address in London Road, Coventry.

“The woman, aged 56, was pronounced dead at the scene. There are no obvious signs of injury and a forensic post mortem will be carried out today or tomorrow in the hope of shedding light on how the woman died.

“A 20-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the death and he remains in police custody.”

A spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: “We were called at 7.20pm to reports of a medical emergency at a property on London Road. Two ambulances and the Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance Critical Care Car attended the scene.

“On arrival we discovered one patient, a woman.

“Sadly, despite the best efforts of ambulance staff it became apparent nothing could be done to save her and she was confirmed dead at the scene.”
