Broadgate is set to be home to a glistening big wheel this winter as part of the city’s Christmas offer.
The wheel will be open to both adults and children to ride throughout the day and into the evening. Market stalls selling a range of festive food, drinks and gifts will also be in place in Broadgate and Upper Precinct.
Supplied by The Giant Wheel Company, the wheel is well over 100ft at its highest point and is set to provide breathtaking views.
Cllr Abdul Salam Khan, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Events, Coventry City Council said: “We are delighted to announce another magical Christmas offer for the residents of Coventry and visitors to our city. Our popular Christmas Markets are set to return alongside the big wheel.
“The big wheel is a family friendly activity that is suitable for all ages and everyone can get involved. Tickets will be available for adults and children and there will be a family ticket which is great value.”
Cllr Patricia Hetherton, Cabinet Member for City Services, added: “Our city centre will look spectacular this winter.
“From the top of the wheel you will be able to see our stunning city skyline and the three spires which will be floodlit after dark.”
Paul Jones, Managing Director of Visit Coventry, said: “This stunning big wheel, showcasing our unique city skyline, will be the jewel in Coventry’s Christmas crown this winter, and Visit Coventry will be proudly promoting everything there is for residents and visitors alike to see and do in the city this coming festive season.
“Visit Coventry will be working tirelessly to attract more visitors to the city to enjoy our Christmas offering, which will, in turn, support our visitor attractions, hospitality businesses and retail outlets right across the city.
“With our ever-evolving and diverse Christmas offering, Coventry becomes better known as a must-visit festive destination each year, rivalling our neighbouring towns and cities. This 2023 festive season will be no different.”
If planning permission is approved, the wheel and markets will open to the public on Saturday 18 November and will be in place until Sunday 7 January. The wheel will operate every day from 11am – 10pm except Christmas Day.
The city’s Christmas offer is being delivered by Coventry City Council in partnership with Visit Coventry and Coventry BID.
More details about the big wheel, including admission prices, will be announced soon.
