Sergeant Trent McMurray, from the Leamington Safer Neighbourhood Team. said: “This is a disgusting act of vandalism.

“At a time when my team are working hard to protect people in Leamington during the pandemic, it is really disappointing to be treated in this way; it’s clear some people have no respect for society.

“We have carried out enquiries including viewing CCTV from the area but have been unable to identify those responsible.”

The same tag was found to have been sprayed on the base of a statue of Queen Victoria today, Tuesday, September 29, which stands in the town centre.

It was erected to commemorate Queen Victoria granting the town royal status in 1838.

A plaque on the statue also celebrates the fact it survived a German bombing raid in World War Two.

It reads: “A German bomb moved this statue one inch on its plinth on 14th November 1940.”

John Rhodes, 34, said: “It’s a certain type of animal who defaces both a police vehicle and a statue of one of this country’s most treasured monarchs.

“Sadly, it is indicative of the atmosphere in this country today when authority and our history are treated with such disrespect by idiots who ruin it for the majority.”

Writing on Facebook, Brenda Fowler said: “So angry I could cry. Another example of utter scumbags sticking two fingers up at the rest of us.”
