Chris Eubank Jr emerged with a rainbow armband and a Manchester United shirt at the weigh-in before his fight with Liam Smith on Saturday in Manchester.

Eubank kept the pro-LGBTQ armband on during a lengthy face-off on Friday.

“We want be all inclusive in this sport. Liam disrespected, hurt and alienated a whole group of people,” said Eubank.

“That is unacceptable. We don’t want that in boxing.

“When you’re getting ready to fight a man, tensions are high, I get it.

“But we’ve got to be responsible, we’ve got kids looking up to us and we’ve got to set the example.”

Both fighters weighed in at 11st 5lb for the all-British middleweight contest.

Sky Sports and promotional company Boxxer both apologised for the comments at Thursday’s news conference.

Eubank eventually responded to Smith’s taunts with some of his own about the city of his opponent’s birth, Liverpool, and his marriage.

Both fighters have been spoken to about their behaviour and reminded of their responsibility to behave in a professional manner.

The British Boxing Board of Control said on Friday they were aware of comments made and were “considering the conduct of both boxers directly”.

After the ugly scenes Eubank admitted things “escalated quickly” and he conceded tensions were high.

“Boxing is personal, fighting another man is one of the most personal things you can do. So I get it,” he said.
