Coventry City manager Mark Robins revealed at the weekend his hope to draft in more new players to complete his summer recruitment drive.
The Sky Blues boss has already made eight signings so far and with another month to go until the transfer window closes, and he’s keen to add more to make his squad as “robust” as possible as the club embark on their first season back in the Championship after an eight year absence.
Robins admitted after Saturday’s pre-season double header with Peterborough United that he’d like at least one more new player, three in an ideal world, with a central/defensive midfielder his priority.
Asked if the club are any nearer to getting anyone over the line, Robins told CoventryLive: “I would imagine we’re closer, yes, and as the days go by we’re looking to conclude things but I think we just keep pushing and see where we are over the next week or so.

“But everything has gone OK in terms of what we have tried to do.”
Asked if the deals are likely to be loans or permanent, he added: “They will be a mixture but I don’t know yet. I just have to wait and see.”
City have been strongly linked with three players in recent weeks – all of whom fit the central midfield remit.
Confirming his search for a more defence-minded midfielder, Robins revealed: “We have been looking for that for a while and the reason being is we have got Liam Kelly and with the amount of games we have got, I think Kels will step up, because that’s what he does, and I think he’ll relish any challenge that’s thrown down because he’s risen to everything and got past it, and he’ll enjoy that.
“But the truth in the matter is we have got games Saturday/Tuesday/Saturday/Tuesday as well as Wednesdays and Fridays and we’ll play every day of the week this season and we need to have a squad that’s robust enough to cope with those demands.
“So we need some sort of cover in that position, no doubt.
“But I also need others in other positions. But I can only do so much, financially, in this window.
“There are two others really that I could do with that need covering.”
While Robins is keen to complete his recruitment push ahead of the new campaign, he’s quick to praise the club for backing him in the transfer window.
“I’m happy with what we have done. It’s been brilliant and this season we just want to have a really good season.

“The squad is nicely balanced at the moment and there are still players we would like to add to it but we are where we are and I think the club have been fantastic in the way we have been able to recruit and the way we have been able to achieve that has been fantastic.
“So I really appreciate everyone’s help and Dave Boddy’s support throughout this difficult time.”
