Coventry Rugby’s long wait to play a game of rugby finally ends on Saturday afternoon (2pm).

Some 336 days after their 36-25 IPA Greene King Championship win away at Doncaster Knights in March 2020, Rowland Winter’s side will tackle Jersey in a friendly fixture.

The Butts Park Arena encounter had been planned for many weeks but could only be formally announced on Thursday. It will be followed by home and away friendlies with Saracens before the 2021 Championship season kicks off on the first weekend of March.

Winter has named a 31-man squad which includes a number of new faces. New signings Alex Gibson and Rob Stevenson have their first run-out in blue and white, as do dual-registered players Cameron Jordan and Callum Sirker, and Moulton College student Tom Ball, who starts alongside club captain Adam Peters and team captain Ryan Burrows in the back row.

Due to Covid-19 restrictions, supporters will not be able to attend the match but they can watch a live stream at www.247.tv/covrugby – for a cost of £9.99.

Viewers can watch on their laptops, tablets and smartphones alike, as well as through internet-connected TVs.
