Tech retailers Currys PC World faced a huge backlash from customers over their PS5 launch this morning.

The company had been advertising a 9am launch for customers to get their hands on the new Sony console which launched across Europe today.

But at 9.02 the company said the launch had been put on hold.

Then, shortly after 11, the retailer announced it had no more consoles to sell today and told customers to monitor social media channels for further announcements.

In posts on Twitter and Facebook, Currys PC World told customers: “Important Announcement. Our 9am go live for the PS5 is unfortunately on hold. We’re really sorry as we know a lot of you are really excited to get your hands on the PS5, we are hoping that it will go live later today. Keep your eyes peeled on our page for more updates.”

Thousands of people commented on the posts.

Many said they had placed consoles in their online baskets only for them to then disappear.

Replying to one customer on Twitter a member of Team Knowhow, the Currys customer services team, said: “If you had placed the oder before 9am this would have been cancelled due to a loop hole in the website allowing you to order.”

Shortly after 11am, the retailer announced there would be no more stock today, saying: “Tere will be no more PS5s available to buy today. We know that this is disappointing news, and we are working super hard to get more stock. Please check our social channels for further updates on availability.”

One upset customer said on Facebook: “Would of been great if your website was even working right at 9 this morning when I got on at 9:15 after being stuck in a giant que I couldn’t even see the ps5 console on your website it’s only showed me the accessories when moments before 9 you could attempt to purchase it but it would t let you put it in your basket for obvious reasons!”

Another said: “It’s no use this site, I was straight in 11am and less than a minute pass it was sold out, was there even any stock ?”

While another asked: “Why on earth are you telling people 9am then 11am, surly you knew you’d have no stock to sell today”
