An elderly man has died after his car collided with a lammpost on the A46 this morning.

Emergency services were called at 9.42 after reports of the incident, at the junction of the A46 and Alcester Road.

Upon arrival, they found an 80-year-old man on scene in cardiac arrest.

Ambulance crews, who believe the man suffered a medical incident prior to the collision taking place, immediately began administering advanced life support.

Sadly, despite their best efforts, nothing could be done to save the man and he was confirmed dead at the scene.

His next of kin have been informed.

The road was closed between Bishopton Roundabout (A3400) and Tollgate Roundabout (A422) for a few hours.

A spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: “We were called to reports of a car that had collided with a lamppost at the junction of the A46 and Alcester Road at 9.42am.

“Two ambulances, a paramedic officer and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Staffordshire attended the scene. On arrival we discovered one patient, a man, who was in cardiac arrest.

“Ambulance crews, who believe the man suffered a medical incident prior to the collision taking place, immediately began administering advanced life support but sadly, despite their best efforts, it became apparent nothing could be done to save him and he was confirmed dead at the scene.”

A spokesman for Warwickshire Police said: “An 80-year-old man has died when his car left the carriageway on the A46 near Stratford Upon Avon.

“The collision, which occurred close to the Alcester Rd roundabout, was reported to police at 9.47am.

“Despite the efforts of paramedics, the man was declared dead at the scene.

“The man’s next of kin has been informed.

“Anyone who witnessed the collision or has dash cam footage is asked to call 101 quoting incident 83 of 25 September 2020.”
