‘Best quality’ local produce will be celebrated in a unique event held on a historic Coventry city centre street.

A section of Spon Street will be closed between 10am and 8pm on Sunday, May 30 for the first Spon Street Farmers’ Market.

Street food and beverage vendors, craft producers, retailers and entertainment will be in place celebrating the best Coventry and Warwickshire has to offer.

Already confirmed to be attending are local producers offering brownies, preserves, peanut butter, honey and pizza.

“The traders on Spon Street have held multiple meetings and everyone is in agreement, we want to make Spon Street more of a destination,” said Luke Truslove, owner of The Green Dragon in Spon Street.

“This year is the City of Culture and our section of Coventry is oozing with history and culture, so we decided to act and organise something for ourselves.”

Road set to be pedestrianised

He added: “The council are putting the Spon Gate back so we can close off the road so it’s fully pedestrianised.”

The market is hoping to attract 30 stalls of local artisan and craft producers.

Mr Truslove added: “We’re hoping to create something similar to Broadway market in London.

“There’s so many great independent craft/artisan producers in the region, we want to bring them into one place, in our unique area of the city.

“If our first even is successful we hope to hold more and make it a regular thing, building up to a Christmas market.”
