Former Coventry City ace Daniel Sturridge is training at Kidsgrove Athletic as he awaits his next move.
The former Liverpool and Chelsea striker is still on the lookout for a new club with the ex-England striker currently a free agent.
And while he awaits his next destination in what has been a fantastic career, Sturridge is keeping himself in trim at Kidsgrove
He has been linked with West Ham and Crystal Palace but, having spent lockdown in Los Angeles, is currently back at home near Congleton, where he went to school after joining Manchester City’s Academy as a teenager.
Kidsgrove chairman Mick Fitzjohn joked: “Yes, he’s signed a 12-month contract.
“No, he’s coming down to keep himself fit and he’s working hard while he finds a new club.
“He comes down most days and he can let himself in. He lives locally and we don’t mind that. It’s a nice set up.
“I’ve been down there painting but we haven’t chucked him a brush just yet to help out.”
Sturridge spent three years at the Sky Blues after leaving Aston Villa as a youngster before going on to join Manchester City.
He then joined Chelsea, and Liverpool and then moved to Trabzonspor.
But he is is now hoping to make a move back to the Premier League.
He told Sky Sports: “We have options around the world but I’m an English player and I’ve always loved playing in the Premier League.
“I believe I’ve got a lot to give to the Premier League and I would say that’s my first choice. I do feel I have unfinished business so I would like to go back and play there.
“I’m open to playing in other leagues, it’s not just the Premier League I’m going to consider, but to come back to England and give my best would be a huge option for me.
“I’m very excited, I’m hungrier than ever and I’m totally focused on the next chapter.”
