A free Christmas drive-in cinema event is being put on for local families in Coventry – and will definitely get you in the Christmas mood.
It is part of a community programme run by the St Michael’s policing team, and will see all the Christmas classics shown in a car park just under the ring road.
The event will show eight family-friendly films across two weekends this month – December 5 and 6, and 12 and 13.
Christmas school parties, Nativity plays and trips to the local theatres to see the Christmas pantomimes have all been cancelled, so this is a perfect opportunity for local families to get some festive fun in.
Under Tier 3, the rule states that large outdoor events (performances and shows) should not take place, with the exception of drive-in events.
To ensure that the event is Covid-19 safe, the team have turned the Christmas cinema into a ‘drive-in’ event, which will take place in the Lower Ford Street car park, which is situated under the ring road and opposite the old sports and leisure centre. The car park can be accessed just off Cox Street, and has been planned for around 20 cars so there is plenty of space around each vehicle ensuring you stay safe.
Every child that attends will receive a goodie bag with crime prevention advice in and some snacks to eat whilst watching the cinema.
They will be showing all of the classics, from Home Alone, to Frozen and of course Coventry’s own ‘Nativity!’
The car park is fenced off with controlled access in and out and won’t be open to members of public, the car park is exclusively open for just this event.
Nobody other than police or staff will be allowed out of their vehicle once it is on site.
It is not the first time that the policing team have run neighbourhood events like this for Hillfields residents.
They ran a successful open air cinema in the autumn half term for local families, and regularly put on half-term activities at the local WATCH community centre.
