A message from Cllr Abdul Salam Khan, Deputy Leader of Coventry City Council.
May I wish you all a Happy Diwali.
This is a joyful time, a festival of lights, a celebration of the victory of light over darkness and good over evil.
It is a time of parades and fireworks. Homes, temples and workplaces are decorated and this year, families, friends and neighbours can join together once more.
People across our city and the world will be celebrating their faith, and, as usual, in Coventry, everyone is invited.
Our multicultural city is this year the UK City of Culture, and we are using that year to celebrate all our many communities and show how we join together as one to share our cultures, arts and festivals.
Nowhere does that better than Coventry, the city of peace and reconciliation and the city of welcome.
I am delighted that we can once more be together, but please, if you are meeting friends and family, please do so safely and stay outdoors if you can, or if indoors allow plenty of ventilation.
We are getting back to normal, but COVID is still with us.
However you are celebrating, please have a joyous Diwali, light up your homes and give thanks for all we have.
I wish you and your families happiness, prosperity and joy.
Cllr Abdul Salam Khan
