A whale was found marooned on a beach near Nuneaton – as part of a training exercise.

The image  of a whale surrounded by staff was posted on the Bosworth Water Park page on Facebook.

It read: “We can confirm a 20ft 2 ton whale has been found beached on the shore, members of the British Divers Marine Life Rescue service are currently trying to re-float the whale.”

It attracted more than 100 comments and shares from visitors.

An update was posted later in the day to reveal it was a British Divers Marine Life Rescue training session.

“Just to update you all the whale has been successfully returned to the wild (well the back of the van)……We have today had the pleasure of allowing British Divers Marine Life Rescue to use our facility to hold a training day,” the post read.

“The newly qualified volunteers from all over the country and abroad are now able to help marine animals in distress.

“To answer one question the whale was not inflatable but was filled with water and did weigh over 2 tons.

“We can confirm no animals were hurt on the training day.”
