Sam McCallum feels promoted Coventry City just need time to adjust to the Championship.

The 20-year-old defender was speaking after the Sky Blues’ 2-0 defeat at Brentford on Saturday.

Ivan Toney scored both of Brentford’s goals in the second half.

McCallum came off the bench after an hour of the contest.

“It’s a massive step up from League One and there is a huge gap. We have to deal with it throughout the season, by finding our feet and getting some goals,” McCallum told the club’s website.

“It was a changed team. We needed to gel together, we needed time to grow into the game.

“It wasn’t good enough and the last 20 minutes we sort of woke up a little, but the first half that is not how we normally play.

“Brentford are a good side, they were fighting for promotion last season and almost got there and we had to fight to the end, but we just couldn’t get anything out of the game.”
