The search for those responsible for a shooting in Coventry on Friday night continues, with no arrests made so far.

An 18-year-old was shot as he sat in a Vauxhall Corsa on Far Gosford Street at around 11.45pm.

Though the victim left the scene, he later presented himself at hospital having suffered an arm injury.

But, while police continue to investigate, those responsible for the shooting remain at large.

It is believed that the shooter arrived and left the scene in a car, and anyone with information is urged to come forward.

A police cordon remained in place for some time following the incident, but was removed several hours later.

What have police said?

Local policing Inspector Jonathan Peepall, of West Midlands Police said: “Sadly this is another instance of dangerous violence on the streets of the city centre.

“No-one deserves to have this happen to them and there is absolutely no justification for an attack like this in our society.

“I know that local people are extremely worried about what has happened, as it follows another shooting that took place in the same street last month.

“We’ve stepped up patrols in the area to reassure and engage with local people and businesses over the coming days, as a team of detectives work round the clock to identify those responsible and bring them to justice.

“Our enquiries are at a very early stage and I would like to appeal to anyone who has information which may assist to get in touch. Please contact us or Crimestoppers directly and tell us what you know – we must all work together to bring those responsible to justice and ensure that Coventry is a safe place to live, work and enjoy.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact police either via the Live Chat online between 8am and midnight, or by calling 101 at any time, quoting crime reference number 20CV/252758J/20.

Alternatively, Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously on 0800 555 111 or visit

Second shooting

It is the latest in a spate of shooting incidents on Far Gosford Street in recent weeks.

On Thursday, September 17, three men were hospitalised after being shot on the very same street.

Police described the incident as an act of “outrageous violence”, and urged anyone with information to come forward.
