We’re heading fast towards winter as the chilly temperatures and dark nights start to draw in.
It means many of us will be reaching for the thermostat and turning up our radiators.
But some may not be aware they could get a massive £140 payment to help them with the costs of their energy bills.
The Warm Home Discount comes from the government.
Money Saving Expert Martin Lewis, speaking on the Martin Lewis Money Show on ITV, urged people to check if they qualified for it, reports The Star.
He said: “This is £140 credit that goes towards your energy bill.
“It’s automatic if you receive a guaranteed element of pension credit but if you are on certain benefits (income support, jobseekers, and some people on universal credit) you will need to apply to your energy firm to get it.”
The money man added that not every energy firm uses the scheme, but many of the big suppliers do.
He told people to check comparison sites to see the cheapest firm that offers a Warm Home Discount.
And he urged them to do it quickly as he warned there are sometimes deadlines for applications and caps on the number of customers who get the discount.
