A car driver was killed in a smash on the A5 in Atherstone after his car crashed into a parked HGV.
West Midlands Ambulance Service (WMAS) has confirmed a man, who has not been identified but was aged in his 50s, died as a result of the collision on the the A5 roundabout near the Blue Boar Inn in Mancetter, Atherstone at 6.46am yesterday (November 30).
A WMAS spokesperson said medics did all they could – but they sadly could not save the man.
“We were called by the police to reports of a collision involving a car and a stationary HGV on the A5 roundabout near the Blue Boar Inn in Mancetter, Atherstone at 6.46am yesterday (Sunday),” the WMAS spokesperson said
“Two ambulances and a paramedic officer attended.
“When ambulance crews arrived, they found a car which had been involved in a collision with a stationary HGV.
“It quickly became apparent that nothing could be done to save the driver of the car, a man, and he was confirmed dead on scene.”
Residents living nearby had reported on social media reported hearing a loud bang in the area.
The road was closed from the Mancetter Island and Holly Lane Island while emergency services dealt with the incident.
A Warwickshire Police spokesperson said the man’s next of kin have been informed and they are being offered support.
They are now appealing for any witnesses to the collision between the silver Mercedes and HGV.
“Officers are keen to speak with anyone who saw the incident, or who saw the vehicles and the manner in which they were being driven prior to the collision,” the Warwickshire Police spokesperson said.
“Anyone with information is asked to call 101 and speak to PC Abimilech quoting incident number 46 of 29 November.”
