A Coventry night club sold out of tickets in one hour for their reopening night following the Covid-19 pandemic.

Kasbah Nightclub, on Primrose Hill Street in the city, is a popular location for students and other revellers.

Like all clubs venues, it has been closed since March last year due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The Govenment’s roadmap out of lockdown plans for nightclubs to reopen no earlier than June 21, but the date has not yet been confirmed and depends on the infection rate.

However, clubs have already started to plan for their return, and Kasbah is one of the venues round the city which has decided to take the plunge and and release tickets for its planned reopening night on Monday June 21, which then sold out in just one hour.

Talking to CoventryLive the events manager at Kashbah, Thanos Staikos, said as a venue they have been looking forward to reopening for a long time.

He also discussed how the venue coped throughout the last year of lockdown.

He said: “The pandemic has been hard for everyone – financially, mentally, everything.

“We have so far been closed for one year and two months since the first lockdown, which is the longest the venue has ever been closed.

“We did open as a bar in late August time, so we were able to provide a service which helped us financially, but it just wasn’t the same.

“This time around, even though we could open as a bar now, we’ve decided not too and we’re just going to focus on the upcoming events we have planned.”

So far, the club have announced they will be hosting nights with Everything Everything, Pa Salieu and Patrick Topping.

The club is now looking towards its second night open on June 22, as the first night sold out so quickly.

Thanos continued: “The second half this year will be crazy, first we have summer, then we have freshers in September, with both the first years joining the universities and the second years who didn’t get a proper freshers last year.

“But we have plenty of plans in the pipeline and regular announcements of line-ups and events.”
