People aged 65 or older are now going to be called on to be vaccinated against coronavirus – as it was revealed more than one in nine of those aged 75 over in in Coventry and Warwickshire have had their jab.

NHS England has said regions can move on to people aged 65 and over if every effort has been made to contact and vaccinate those in groups one to four, and if there are supplies.

The mass vaccination programme is continuing to take huge strides forward and the latest figures show that 183,328 doses of the vaccination have been administered in Coventry and Warwickshire so far.

Figures are published weekly and the latest are accurate as of February 7. They were published yesterday, Thursday, February 11.

In the over 80s age category, 43,737 people have had their first dose, 92 per cent of the population in that age group. Of those, 4,111 have had the second dose.

In the next category, those aged 75 to 79, 32,880 people have had the first dose (98 per cent) and 48 have had the second.

Of the 70 to 74 age group, 37,064 (81 per cent) have had the first dose and 26 have had the second.

And in the under 70 age group, 64,377 people have had the first dose (just under 10 per cent) and 1,085 have had the second.

In the past week, 35,951 doses of the vaccine have been administered in Coventry and Warwickshire – more than 5,000 per day.

Vaccines are being administered according to priority, with care home staff and residents at the top of the list, followed by those aged 80 and over, and healthcare workers.

Then priority is in order of age groups.

Those aged under 70 who have had a coronavirus vaccination are healthcare workers or those with underlying health conditions.

Across England as a whole, almost 11m doses of the vaccination have now been administered.

The Midlands is leading the country in terms of the regions, with more than 2m doses of the vaccination having been administered already.

The South East is next at 1.78m doses.
