Two teenagers have been arrested after Warwickshire residents were scammed out of £30,000 over the phone.
Warwickshire Police said a 19-year-old man was arrested in connection with an incident in Southam in September 2020 where a woman in her 70s was conned out of £10,500 by a fraudster claiming to be from the police.
A 19-year-old woman was arrested in connection with an incident in Rugby in February 2021, where a woman in her 50s was conned out of £20,000 by a caller claiming to be from her bank.
The suspects, both 19, were arrested in London on April 1 on suspicion of fraud and money laundering.
They have since been released under investigation while enquiries continue.
Detective Constable Stuart Clasper from Warwickshire Police’s Economic Crime unit said: “We continue to investigate these despicable crimes where criminals often prey on the elderly and vulnerable.
“I would like to take the opportunity to remind people they will never, under any circumstances, be contacted by the police or their bank asking them to transfer or withdraw money.
“If you receive such a call it is a fraud and you should report it to Action Fraud or if a crime is in progress call 999.”
