The ban on small vans and cars with trailers at Coventry’s tip will be lifted in just a matter of days.
Coventry City Council has confirmed that, as of Tuesday (September 1), online bookings can be made for those with vans and trailers.
The London Road tip reopened on May 18 with a booking-only system after closing during the early stages of the coronavirus lockdown.
Since the restart, vans and vehicles with trailers have not been allowed in to help ‘maximise space’.
But CoventryLive can confirm that the city council will be making bookings available for those with vans and cars with small trailers.
But they will only be for use of residents in the city.
A spokesperson for the council, said: ”Bookings are continuing for now and we will notify residents if the situation changes.
“The restrictions were introduced to ensure the health and safety of site visitors and staff during the COVID-19 pandemic. The booking system that was put in place has worked really well in controlling the numbers of visitors on site and preventing the queues that other areas have experienced.
“Since the site reopened we have not allowed vans, or cars with trailers to access the tip, but a system has now been developed to allow small vans and cars with trailers to be able to book a visit.
“From Tuesday 1 September there will be slots available for these vehicles. Slots are being managed to take into consideration the additional requirements and will only be available for residents of Coventry to dispose of their household waste.”
The online booking system has proven to be not only successful but also popular and it looks set to remain in place for some time.
“We will be closely monitoring bookings and tip visits to make sure guidelines are followed and that slots are kept available for Coventry residents,” the spokesperson added.
