A road smash involving a taxi left young woman in a critical condition.

Two other people required hospital treatment following the collision on the A46 Warwick Bypass in Stanks Hill, Warwick, just before midnight last night (Thursday).

The incident saw a women receive care while in a critical condition at the scene before she was taken to hospital. A man and a women who were also involved were taken to the same hospital for non-serious injuries.

The scene was also attended by Warwickshire Police and Warwickshire Fire Service.

Warwickshire Police are appealing for witnesses.

West Midlands Ambulance Service told CoventryLive two ambulances paramedic officer and a critical care car from the Air Ambulance Service with a doctor and paramedic on board were sent to the scene.

A spokeswoman said: “Ambulance crews arrived to find a single vehicle RTC involving a taxi which had ended up in a ditch. One passenger, a woman, was in a critical condition. Crews worked closely with the fire service to extricate her from the vehicle whilst she received advanced trauma care. Once released from the vehicle the woman was conveyed on blue lights to University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire for further emergency care.

“A second passenger, a woman, and the driver, a man, were given treatment on scene for non-serious injuries before both being taken to the same hospital for further checks.”

Warwickshire Police police appealed for witnesses saying: “Were you driving along the A46 southbound carriageway near Warwick yesterday evening (Thursday)?

“A silver BMW is understood to have left the road just prior to the Stanks junction shortly before midnight.

“A woman in her 20s – a passenger in the car – suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital where she remains in a serious but stable condition. Her next of kin has been informed.

“Enquiries are ongoing but we’re appealing for anyone who was driving in the area, who saw the vehicle or who has dashcam footage of the collision to get in touch.

“Anyone with information should call 101 quoting incident number 399 of 11 February.”

Tweeting about the incident, Warwickshire Fire said: “WFRS crews assisted with a road traffic collision on the A46 at Stanks Hill today at 00:05 hours.

“Two fire engines from Leamington Spa attended. The incident involved one car off roadway. Crews released one casualty using hydraulic equipment. Ambulance and Police also attended.”
