Loud bangs shuddered across Nuneaton prompting a wave of speculation about what could be causing them last night.
They could be heard for miles around, from Stockngford to Bermuda, Whitestone and Hartshill.
People took to social media to find out what was behind the bangs, which started at just before 9pm.
There were reports of works on the railway line in Nuneaton but, currently, there are no Network Rail works in the area.
One explanation could be firework testing in Nether Whitacre.
There was a post on the Nether Whitacre Community page on Facebook to warn about the testing.
It warned people the noise could cause issues for animals saying: “We have been notified that there will be testing of some fireworks between 7 and 11pm on September 8th in Nether Whitacre. Please inform those who may you (sic) wish to take additional measures to support pets and livestock.”
The testing, nose from which could have been heard as far away as Nuneaton, seems the most likely cause of the noises heard across the town.
Similar incidents have happened in the past.
Loud bangs from a giant fireworks display Coleshill could be heard across the area in December 2018.
